In a shameless display of utter demagoguery, CBS Sports writer Matt Moore has publicly attacked LeBron James for saying "That's retarded" in response to a question that was asked him during a post-game press conference.
Moore is alleging that James offended developmentally disabled persons with his use of the word "retarded". However, Moore is the one who is being offensive, by assuming that the identity of disabled persons is inexorably attached to an offensive existence.
It appears that, not only is Moore an ignorant buffoon, he is also a petty bigot who obviously has a toilet for a mind.
Just because some foolish jackasses misuse the word "retarded", and employ it as a callous pejorative meant to mis-identify mentally challenged or physically disabled persons is not in any way James's fault. Nor is there any reason to assume that his intention was to offend.
The fact is that the word "retarded" is in no way offensive. Neither is it reserved to the realms of diminished capacity. The word "retarded", or "retardation" has several connotations that have nothing to do with developmentally disabled persons., except, of course, when they are used as slang.
Retarded actually means "slowed", or "underdeveloped" (often explaining plant growth), and is typically attached to descriptive phrases and sentences used to explain incompatibility. Such things as mechanical inconsistencies, where the position of an engine's cam shaft is misaligned (out of time) with that of its crank shaft. This "retarded" timing then causes a malfunction that is very similar in nature to the description by James where he said that the question was "retarded", clearly insinuating that it was inconsistent and/or incompatible with the expected counterpart; this counterpart being the subject matter outlined in the question. Put more simply, the question was "out of whack" or "ridiculous".
Furthermore, there is no possibility whatsoever that anyone was actually offended by what James said. Any ill feelings that may manifest as a result of such a statement would be entirely the responsibility of the person who has allowed their self to become ignorantly distressed based on a precognitive dysfunction that is entirely their choice. Essentially, because the recipient is the only one capable of properly disseminating the word, and avoiding the temptation to unnaturally assume their is a derogatory intent on the part of the commenter.
Not one person in this nation, or any other, can conclusively determine, nor justifiably insinuate, exactly what James meant by what he said. And there are far too many legitimate uses for the word retarded. Furthermore, they are entirely acceptable in the setting that he used it, especially considering that the definition he most likely intended to attach to his comment was that the question presented to him was "incomplete".
What is remarkable is that Matt Moore is the one who is actually guilty of abusive behavior, and in a most egregious form of hypocrisy in that he is truly attempting to take advantage of a man who is, quite obviously, his intellectual inferior, while claiming that James is the superior.
The David and Goliath scenario that Moore is trying to create and bombastically shout across the media, is ironically based on his own oppressive Goliath-type behavior.
It is no secret that James is a popular sports icon who makes his living throwing a ball into a hoop. Nor can anyone deny that he is a member of a particularly unique group of people whom are routinely expected, or believed, to be academic underachievers.
While it may, most certainly, be true that James is an intelligent and capable man, the fact is that he is not expected to be proficient in most of the areas that Moore, an accomplished journalist, is required to excel in.
Moore, who has the clear advantage in this instance, has taken the matter far beyond any form of mere offensive terminology, and is actually exploiting James for nothing more than his ambient shortcoming - essentially a disability, all things considered - where the divergence in capabilities is created by Moore's practiced attributes, which just so happen to be perfectly tailored for his scurrilous attack on James. In stark contrast, is James's lack of proficiency in the area he now needs it most, and simply to protect himself from the public slandering and bullying that Mr. Moore is engaging him with.
This is an utter travesty, and Moore's actions prove him to be a complete fraud, as well as a despicable media whore who appears to find it conscionable to abuse his position as a nationally recognized journalist by using it as a stage from which to launch baseless attacks. His words are nothing more than riotous filth spoken from a man of lesser conscience - quite obviously much less than the victim he has targeted with his mendacious venom.
Furthermore, the fact that CBS actually allowed this story to run, and enabled Moore's ignorant diatribe to stain the entire nation with completely bombastic and irresponsible eruditions of self-serving pomposity, is an inexplicably turbid peek into the actual commando-style propaganda tactics this media outlet obviously has every intention of employing.
Thank goodness for the freedom of the press, and the freedom of speech in this country, that has exfoliated their agenda, or citizens may never have been so properly introduced to the sycophant senility and shameless subversion CBS is saturated with.
