Haiti Relief Bureaucracy Balkanizing A Nation In Crisis
In an article in the New York Times reporting widespread looting and violence in Haiti’s capitol city of Port au Prince, the fact that many Haitians are being refused much of the aid pouring into that country illuminates clearly the true instigator of the increasing anguish of those people. Billions of dollars in aid have been directed at the crisis, however local bureaucracies in tandem with United Sates policy are forcing this aid to be delivered through microscopic channels. This literal misfeasance and balkanizing mendacity has the country of Haiti on a perilous edge, and the citizenry cannot be held fully accountable for the hubris consternation and frustration that is ensuing. For the political structure in this nation to be taking full advantage of that region by dangling carrots over a mass of starving and injured people is unconscionable and depraved. This is not a political opportunity for photo ops and party clout, and the democratic majority now treating it as such should be held in contempt of the United States people and their ideals of autonomy and generosity. This is certainly a shameful display by the US government, and goes a long way in explaining the lethargy shown in the disaster relief strategies employed by FEMA in the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe. In the storm torn region of Louisiana, the government’s first priorities were gun grabbing and forcing people from their homes and into areas of mass concentration. The fact that the first conscripts of aid to the region of Port au Prince were Air Force special forces does much to implicate the United States as a major contributor to the confusion that now grips the country of Haiti. Haitians are reporting seeing trucks rumbling by for days, but no supplies being distributed, not even potable water to drink. For what reason would any trucks full of supplies be passing people in need? There is no plausible reason for denying anyone any form of aid whatsoever, and any person or entity which intends to make any claims to the contrary will expose themselves to be scurrilously motivated and disingenuous. And this author challenges any one of the entire nation’s politicians, leaders and military advisors to attempt to prove this analogy wrong. This site will certainly make plenty of room for responding to any such conflicting analogy. Signed, Factbat.
