WHY MUST WE ACCEPT OTHERS FOR WHO THEY ARE?
The most pervasively engendered doctrine of the 21st century is quite possibly the belief that freedom is codified mainly within the notion that people must accept others for who they are. This is found in everything from product advertisement to politically correct speech, and veritably insists that those who do not consign to this religion are bigots and closed-minded “ne’er-the-wells” who prefer to hate and berate - or are simply prudes who just don’t “get it”. But is this actually true?
To understand the implications and resulting derivations of such a policy, one need only consider the angst of the families and friends of the victims of the Hitler’s, Stalin’s, Ted Bundy’s and Jeffrey Dhalmer’s of the world. These men were sociopaths who were initially accepted, or more importantly underestimated, as revolutionary, visionary, misunderstood, or just benignly misguided. And it was not until their victims began to surface that people decided to - or were forced to - take a real interest in the proclivities of these veritable “calamities of social complacency”. These men were initially allowed to proliferate quite easily, largely due to pervasive social mechanisms and “tolerances” which are increasingly lauded as progressive and modern for nothing more than intending to operate “outside of the box”, so to speak. To digress for a moment; these tolerances have been suggested and coerced by ignorant “knee-jerk” reactions to abuses experienced by a populous that refuses, or merely neglects, to address the true underlying issues.
What is significant for proper analysis of this behavior is the ability to grasp the causalities (illusions), without skewing interpretation of the results (victims); of which both can be either the numerator or denominator. To put it more clearly, one must be able to resist perversion without abusing or exploiting that which has become perverted, whether the victim of the perversion is the pervert (molester, murderer, robber) or that perversion’s resulting perversion (molested, murdered, robbed). This also includes such diffuse deviations as infidelity, gluttony, apathy, supremacy, etc.
The fault is not in the act of discrimination, but rather the choice to abuse or misuse that which is discriminated. To be clear, all persons must discriminate simply to survive on this planet. If one cannot discern between an apple and a poisonous mushroom then they will not last very long. It is the abuse and exploitation of that which is discriminated which creates cause for alarm, and requires such terminology as “discriminated against”.
This is also true in the much lauded arena of Political Correctness in America, which demands one must accept others, almost unquestionably, for who they are in order to protect the freedoms and liberties of all. However, this is a pitifully contrived notion which has very little, if any, legitimacy in relation to practical terms or sustainability, and risks placing in peril everything that freedom actually intends to afford those with the courage to practice it. Furthermore, it posits to demand that perversions of nearly any nature must first be engaged and extolled regardless of predilection. This is like letting loose a hundred million mad-scientists on the nation - with impunity - and giving them unlimited resources to create whatever they please. Not only would this be illogical and insane, it would likely result in utter catastrophe.
All peoples of all nations must be afforded, and guaranteed, the right to disagree with the actions of others, be they gay, lesbian, bisexual, religious, indigenous or contiguous, and the conversation cannot be silenced merely because some participants do not respect the rights of conflicting views or behaviors, and thus are moved to terrorizing and attacking that which they conflict with. Furthermore, it is counterproductive to incessantly accuse dissenting voices of not understanding. There are many people who truly “get it” and are simply warning those who don’t appear to be concerned, that their behaviors are becoming excessively perverse in the process.
