How to REALLY Quit Smoking Cigarettes (edit added 11/25/08)

Smoking and the human mind:

There are many things to consider when capitulating the proposition of ingesting into the body some foreign and destructive favor. To determine the precise interpretations necessary one must certainly take all prioritizations into account. Whatever one favors most must forever be questioned in equal and opposite temperance. Moreover, whatever one favors least must be acquitted of all irreverence.

I had the pleasure of meeting an extremely respectable and attractive woman today and was surprised by her candor and pleasantry in the face of my ever investigative approach. I took a moment to ask this person what she thought of the fact that smoking cigarettes, even on the sidewalk, is offensive to many people. She was rather approachable and honest and even proffered an explanation as she described that although she had wanted to quit smoking, her therapist had suggested that she not refrain from smoking for at least a year while she was overcoming an alcohol addiction. I have heard this kind of quackery before and was not pleased. This is where I began to get very concerned and rather judgmental of the pseudo-maniacal arena of psychiatry and behavioral therapy. This kind of psychiatric advice is abusive and negligent, while nearly criminal in my perfect world.

For a therapist to suggest that anyone supplant one manipulative corrosion with another is nothing short of malpractice…period! The Hippocratic oath states that one must "first do no harm". This is harm of epic proportions because it demands that one ignore the festering wound, create another, and simply make way for an "amputition". If one must supplant, please supplant good and constructive behaviors.

While there are many facets to the theatre of alcoholism (alcohol abuse), it is not relevant to this article and will be examined and deciphered in later texts. Furthermore, it may certainly be true that alcohol in moderation is tolerable and sometimes very beneficial, however, smoking even one of the highly poisonous cancer sticks all of the major tobacco companies sell is certain abuse of the body. There are no physically beneficial attributes to smoking tobacco, and the addiction of habitually smoking is 98% psychological.

First and foremost is the fact that quitting smoking is a simple term for the act of changing ones life patterns, and in effect their life. However, if one is truly to "quit smoking", the first concept that must be realized is the fact that quitting smoking, per se, is an impossibility. One cannot simply change the solution, no matter how much they insist it is a problem.

What must be realized, also, is the actual distinction between "problem" and "solution", and that while people the wold over consider the habit of smoking cigarettes to be a problem, it is actually a solution. There are only solutions in this world, the word problem is a misconception and allows one to ignore the inherent equation. What is imperative to understanding humanity's current crisis is the fact that most people replace the word "solution" with the word "problem", therefore ignoring this critical equation…and that is where the real trouble begins!

However, when one realizes that smoking cigarettes is a solution, they must then ask, "how can such a solution be?". The fact is that just because something is a solution, does not mean it is in one's best interest or reflective of proper behaviors.

There are many negative and destructive solutions in this world that are most certainly manifestations of the incredible amounts of illogical equations being employed with complete abandon. Most of the population appears incessant of destructive behaviors that are not one bit necessary nor compliant with a happy and productive life.

This said, the fact is that people smoke not because it is good for them, nor because it is logical. But simply because it is suggested as a substitute. For what? One might ask. Well, unfortunately, for something such as smoking cigarettes, that reason forever changes in this current theatre of constant bombardment by advertisement, medical obfuscation and consumer conveyance.

Fortunately there is hope, and one can never completely erase the pathways that lead to any behavior. If one truly is desirous of ending their addiction to cigarettes, and the companies that sell them while pretending to cure people of the habit (they just now own both sides of the fence), they must first realize the many reasons why they smoke, or rather, they must have the courage to admit these reasons to their self. It is imperative to write them down, and if one is truly honest, then the resonance will be unmistakable when one reaches the end of this list. If at least half of them do not personally embarrass the person writing the list, then they have not finished…period. This methodology, of course, relies on personal honesty and moral courage, but what truly good thing in life doesn't? If one is incessant of perversion and self denial then chances are they also will have no desire to quit smoking...but I digress.

(Edit): One critical point to understand is that every reason any habitual smoker has for smoking the poisonous offerings of tobacco companies are all, 100%, illogical and dysfunctional. Fortunately many of these reasons are rather childish and irreverent, which makes them easy to curtail and abolish from ones general outlook and behavior. Moreover, changing these thinking patterns also help one to become much more discerning, wise and certainly engagingly “cool”. However, there are some reasoning’s which are more pervasively acceptable, such as “it is like a best friend…always there”, or the various realms of conditioning in the social sector where smoking can be a way to meet someone or break the ice by saying “got a smoke?”…“got a light?” And of course the always debonair and casual male who deftly, almost sexily, lights some attractive dames cigarette while she gives him some “come hither” look. Yes, these reasoning’s are also quite delusional and laughable, but there are millions of these types of justifications and the question of their being simple or difficult are relative to the person being manipulated. It is wise for all people to seek freedom from the corrosive chains of this pervasive and delusional prison.

When one is done with their list, it will take but the effort of turning a card to release the hold of many of the "habitual necessities". Some are slightly more difficult, but still rather simple, and within five days one should be convinced they will never smoke again. Also, understand that the list will be as different as a fingerprint for everyone on the planet.

One of the more amazing things about this type of personal power and respect, is that one will find that smoking was only enabled by a hatred for, or denial of, one's self; or a negligence that disrespects one's overall health. Once this addiction is overcome one will find that a new found self respect begins to "infect" many other parts of their daily life…for the better, of course!

It must be understood that the cigarette companies did not want to win any battle in court, they just wanted to know how much the price would be for now guaranteeing that all people under their control, must assume complete culpability for the criminal malfeasance, addiction and murder they sell on a daily basis. Moreover, the cigarettes will now be ten times more addictive and crippling because the law cannot stop their various "common knowledge" based activities and justifications, no matter how sinister.

The occasional stogie from a tobacco cultivating connoisseur is one thing, and I am not proposing banning tobacco, but I also don't need to see documents nor sit in at board meetings to hear the cackling hoards of murderous filth that are selling the latest in poisonous, and intentionally addictive, crap.
